How to know if flood water is contaminated?

If you went to the restroom and went to flush and it overflowed you’re pretty sure that water is contaminated. But what about when a storm comes and flow waters enter your home? How do you know if the water is contaminated or not?
There are signs that can indicate if waters contaminated like
1. If it’s dark or murky.
- If it has a foam to it
- If it smells, etc
Plus many other factors but let’s keep it simple. Most flood water includes sewage water. Making flood water equivalent to the toilet overflowing water but including everyone's waste including animals. Making floodwater contaminated!
